Icon-only Bookmarks Bar is a browser extension that makes selected direct bookmarks on the browser’s native bookmarks bar display without their names. It does this by saving the original title locally and updating the browser bookmark title to an empty string until the user restores it.
Information handled
The extension handles the following bookmark data locally:
- Stable bookmark IDs, used to associate a restore copy with the correct bookmark.
- Bookmark titles, used to save and restore the original name.
The extension does not read page content, browsing history, passwords, payment information, contacts, or form data. It does not use website host permissions or content scripts.
Storage and sharing
Restore copies are stored in the browser’s extension-local storage.local area. The extension does not send bookmark data to a server, developer, analytics service, advertising network, or other third party. It does not use remote code or make network requests.
The extension changes the actual browser bookmark title when icon-only mode is enabled. Because this is browser bookmark data, the empty title may appear in the browser’s bookmark manager, bookmark menus, and browser synchronization until the user restores it.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
Bookmark data is used only to provide the extension’s single purpose: showing selected native bookmarks without their names and restoring those names when requested. The extension does not use or transfer bookmark data for advertising, profiling, unrelated market research, or any other unrelated purpose. No developer, employee, contractor, or other human is given access to the bookmark data through the extension.
User controls and deletion
The extension popup provides Restore name, Restore all, and Set name controls. Users should restore saved names before disabling or uninstalling the extension. Uninstalling the extension removes its local restore copies; the browser bookmark title that was already cleared cannot then be recovered by this extension. If a user chooses Set name after reinstalling, the extension stores only the new browser bookmark title and does not recover or transmit the old one.
Deleting a bookmark causes its associated local restore copy to be deleted. Renaming a saved bookmark outside the extension discards the stale restore copy and leaves the new title unchanged.
